The MREF celebrates World Children's Day by donating to the Joseph School

World Children's Day is celebrated globally every year on November 20. In 2022, the goal is to share a message of inclusion and equality. While children are the focus on this day, everyone is encouraged to celebrate, from parents and teachers to businesses and governments.

The establishment of World Children’s Day

World Children’s Day allows children to voice their concerns on a variety of issues. According to UNICEF, “from climate change, education and mental health, to ending racism and discrimination, children and young people are raising their voices on the issues that matter to their generation and calling for adults to create a better future.”

The UN General Assembly established World Children’s Day in 1954. On November 20, 1959, it adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and on November 20, 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted. November 20 now serves as their anniversaries and is further cause for yearly celebration.

Education in Haiti and the Joseph School

World Children's Day is a great opportunity to listen to the concerns of our youth and contribute to local communities and children around the world. Throughout the month of November, the Marketing Research Education Foundation (MREF) is raising money for The Joseph School, Haiti, to help provide aid to its students and staff. With the help of the marketing research and insights industry, The Joseph School community can be positively impacted.

In Haiti, nearly 50% of children do not attend school. Eighty-five percent of Haitian primary schools require payment for books, uniforms and tuition. This has led 46% of Haitian students to not finish primary school and only 28% to attend secondary school.

The Joseph School is a tuition-free school, offering more than 200 students the opportunity to become leaders in their communities. Their mission is to educate and prepare tomorrow’s service-focused leaders in mind, body and spirit. The Joseph School not only funds their education but also their food and water.

How will you celebrate?

There are many ways to celebrate World Children’s Day. Make it a goal to make a change this year. Large or small, any contribution you make in or outside of your community can make an impact on a child’s life. Whether you're spending time with a child or donating to offer children more resources, your actions will not go unnoticed.
