MR professionals participate in third annual Race Around the World for Education

The Marketing Research Education Foundation’s 2023 race results

Marketing research and insights industry professionals participated in the Marketing Research Education Foundation’s 2023 Race Around the World for Education and logged a total 64,081 miles to donate more than $90,000 to Marty’s Orchid House, Orphans’ Aid Society, Start Lighthouse, and the Hogar Montiel Program.

What is the Race Around the World for Education?

The Marketing Research Education Foundation’s Race Around the World for Education is a virtual race that aims to help educate children around the world. Industry professionals who participate in the race log the miles they run, walk and bike throughout the month of May to raise money to support global education for children.

Which organizations are receiving the funds?

This year, the MREF identified four beneficiaries.

The Orphans’ Aid Society offers monetary aid to children in foster arrangements in Ukraine. Children in their network have been displaced regionally in Ukraine and across Europe. With the grant funding it would continue to work under difficult circumstances to help orphans and their caretakers.

Marty’s Orchid House is a Kentucky-based nonprofit organization offering a specialized day program for preschoolers with autism spectrum disorder and overlapping health conditions. It allows low-income parents to continue employment and offers enrolled children access to a range of services. Grant funding will help Marty’s Orchid House purchase equipment to improve its occupational therapy program as well as the necessary screening tools to establish a speech therapy program.

Start Lighthouse is a New York-based organization that is dedicated to narrowing the literacy gap through a social justice lens. It services 5,200 students across eight Title 1 schools within the Bronx. Seventy to 85% of students living in the Bronx read below grade level due to a lack of book access. Start Lighthouse has distributed more than 21,015 new multicultural books with a value of over $400,385. With the grant funding it would expand its opportunities and programming to hundreds of new students.

The Hogar Montiel Girls Association works with young at-risk girls between the ages of 5-to-12 in Costa Rica. It supports them academically according to learning styles and individual needs and supports their emotional well-being and development. With the MREF grant funding, the Hogar Montiel Program will be able to continue offering support to the young girls by providing school supplies and tutoring classes in mathematics, technology, or English.

This year, 853 individuals participated in the race by running, walking, biking, and more! Many found that participating in the race was a rewarding experience and an opportunity to go outside and exercise for a good cause.

“Winning this year’s national title of the Australian Beach Ultimate Championships while doing the Race Around the World by the Marketing Research Education Foundation became one of my most amazing personal sporting seasons,” said participant Lester Sualog.

Others found it to be a great opportunity to be active while spending time with family members.

“Being the multitasking mom that I am, I was able to get some step in this morning for the Marketing Research Education Foundation Race Around the World for Education while taking my daughter to school for Bike to School Day!” said participant Jenavie Mehring.
