The 2024 MREF Race Around the World for Education raised over $70,000 for Start Lighthouse, Hogar Montiel Girls Association, Baal Dan, and Urban Sprouts Child Development Center.
The race wouldn’t be successful without the support of the sponsors at every level, including one of the Victor sponsors, Sago. The donations from companies like Sago help vulnerable children receive the protection, education, and nurturing they need to thrive.
Sago’s Executive Chairman and founding member of the MREF, Steve Schlesinger, said the company’s philanthropic endeavors can be traced back to their founder, and Schlesinger’s mother, Sarah B. Schlesinger.
“Growing up my mother was deeply involved in various charities, making helping others a regular topic at their dinner table,” Schlesinger said. “She instilled in me, and in how she built and ran the company, the importance of giving, whether through donations, services, or other means, fostering a lifelong commitment to social justice and support for those in need.”
These values are evident in the commitment of Sago’s employees over the last four years participating in the Race Around the World. In fact, 352 Sago employees have participated earning a collective 34,949.25 miles ran, biked, and walked. Not to mention the over $29,000 of donations to the MREF and beneficiaries over the years.
“By focusing on aiding individuals, we feel more empowered to make positive changes in the world,” Schlesinger said. “Even small contributions can significantly impact lives in developing countries, highlighting the power of collective effort to sponsor and support those in need.”
