Backpack Challenge Readathon sponsor profile: Schlesinger Group

Schlesinger Group sponsored the 2022 Backpack Challenge Readathon with a $5,000 gift to help provide school supplies to children in need.

The Marketing Research Education Foundation (MREF) partnered with the Kids in Need Foundation (KINF) and other nonprofits to put on the Backpack Challenge Readathon from August 1 to September 16, 2022. Researchers around the world hit the books to raise money for school supplies for kids in need throughout the U.S. and Canada.

With the help of over 70 participants and our sponsors, the MREF raised more than $25,000.

Schlesinger Group donated at the Head Librarian sponsorship level, providing money for 200 backpacks.

As a corporate initiative, Schlesinger Group decided to match “bag for bag” the number of backpacks funded by employees during the Backpack Readathon.

Steve Schlesinger, CEO of Schlesinger Group, said that because many of the members of the Schlesinger team are parents, they understand the importance of the “back to school time.”

“No child should go to school feeling embarrassed at not having the equipment they need for a successful day,” Schlesinger said. “It is clear that children who feel prepared with grade-appropriate school supplies are more practically and psychologically set up to have higher confidence and to perform better.”

Another way Schlesinger Group gives to the MREF is through its digital employee rewards program. This is a program where employees can recognize their co-workers for their excellent collaboration, results delivery and the creation of exceptional client experiences. Once an employee goes to “cash in” the bonus points they have the option to allocate those points to fund backpacks for the MREF.

“It becomes a matter of passion and pride for our employees to feel passionate about connecting their positive behavior with helping others.”
